Microsoft wants “ phase out ” COD Mobile if it completes Activision purchase

The purchase of Activision by Microsoft has been a hotly debated subject in the gaming world. And the controversy has just reached mobile. According to documents leaked by the leaker “ CharlieIntel ”, the Microsoft “ gradually eliminate ” Call of Duty Mobile.

After Warzone’s huge success, it was only a matter of time before CoD’s popular battle royale reached cell phones. However, there is a “ stone ” on the way: Call of Duty Mobile. The game released in 2019 in partnership with Tencent and Timi Studios, was – and is still – a huge success.

Microsoft is still in the process of acquiring Activision Blizzard, the CoD publisher, but there are still some legal issues that they need to resolve before the deal is concluded.

In Microsoft’s response to the UK Government’s Competition and Markets Authority, the company stated that “ CoD: Mobile should be phased out over time ( except in China ) with the launch of Warzone Mobile. ”

Although Activision has not yet publicly discussed the future of Call of Duty: Mobile when Warzone Mobile arrives, if Microsoft gains full control of Activision Blizzard, it could come true.

Warzone Mobile also has traditional multiplayer mode, with players being able to play Team Deathmatch and Domination 6v6 on the Scrapyard and Superstore maps of Modern Warfare 2019.

Microsoft is still receiving resistance from Sony, which is trying to prevent the deal, and the UK Competition and Markets Authority will provide its decision on April 25, 2023.

Who will prevail?

It is understandable, on the part of Microsoft. The company wants Warzone Mobile to be a success as much as possible, and does not want to “ share profits ” with Tencent and Timi Studios.

On the other hand, on the users’ side, Warzone Mobile has proved to be a very heavy game that will not be available for many intermediate devices.

Microsoft’s fear may be that it will happen with Warzone Mobile, which happened with PUBG New State. The game was said to be a PUBG Mobile sequence and would replace it. Although successful, the game failed to “ delete ” the previous version.

But calm that has more! We still have Xcloud in history. It can also happen that Microsoft discontinues both games and focuses only on the traditional Warzone, where mobile players would have to play via Xcloud.

Friend fire!
