CD Projekt Red, the studio behind successful franchises such as The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077, announced this week a new partnership with Scopely, a publisher specialized in mobile games. The goal is to develop a new title based on an intellectual property (IP) owned by CD Projekt itself.
The announcement was made during the release of the company’s financial results for the fiscal year 2024. Although the agreement was confirmed, no details have yet been revealed about which franchise will be adapted or what format the game will take — mobile, PC, or consoles.
During the presentation, analyst Nick Dempsey from Barclays asked whether the partnership would include upfront licensing fees or profit-sharing. However, CD Projekt’s co-CEO, Michal Nowakowski, simply stated that there is no further information about the project at this time.
“Unfortunately, the answer is probably not going to be satisfactory. We have no additional information to share on this matter during this call,” said Nowakowski.
Scopely, known for titles like MONOPOLY GO!, has been expanding its presence in the gaming market. The company recently acquired the developer of Pokémon GO, Niantic, in a deal valued at $3.5 billion, signaling an aggressive growth strategy in the industry.
With a history mostly focused on the mobile market, Scopely may be preparing to expand into other platforms, including PC and consoles. However, the initial focus still appears to be on mobile devices.
It’s worth noting that, in a previous conference, Michal Nowakowski had already mentioned CD Projekt’s interest in bringing franchises like Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher to mobile. The partnership with Scopely could very well be the first step in that direction.
For now, fans will have to wait for more details about the project. Whether it’s an adaptation of The Witcher, Cyberpunk, or even a new IP, the announcement has already sparked great excitement among players.
