Tencent unveils gameplay for “Reverse Future,” new shooting game

Tencent has revealed a new gameplay video for Reverse Future or Insurgency: The Future (逆战：未来), the latest title in the Nizhan franchise and one of the most anticipated FPS games in China. Developed by Timi Studio Group, the game promises an intense first-person cooperative shooting experience, set in a sci-fi world featuring mecha battles and tower defense mechanics.

The game, previously known as Counter War: The Future (original name: 逆战：未来-逆战手游), was first showcased in 2024. It is a spiritual successor to Assault Fire (“Nizhan”).

The released video showcases futuristic settings, frenetic combat against colossal enemies, and a strong emphasis on cooperative gameplay, where players face hordes of enemies and use dynamic strategies to overcome challenges.

An Evolution of “Nizhan” into an Ambitious Sci-Fi Future

Originally known as Nizhan Mobile, the game underwent several redesigns before becoming Inverse Future. The title inherits elements from the classic Nizhan, released over 12 years ago for PC, but expands its formula with a deeper universe, more modern mechanics, and varied gameplay modes.

The story is set in the year 2071, where humans discovered a powerful energy resource called Skeminite, found on the Moon. However, reckless exploitation led to a lunar collapse, known as the “Day of Lunar Collapse”. From there, a war between Humanity and the rebel faction Company begins, bringing epic battles across different interplanetary settings.

Game Modes and Key Features

💥 Intense Cooperative PVE – Team up with friends to face gigantic enemies in challenging cooperative missions.

🤖 Mecha Battles – Pilot giant mechs and destroy waves of enemies in cinematic fights.

🔫 Tactical FPS with Tower Defense Elements – Use strategic skills and various weapons to contain invasions and protect structures.

🌌 Explorable Open World – Beyond combat, the game features exploration missions, where players can investigate ruins and uncover secrets about the lunar collapse.

🎮 Available for Mobile and PC – The game will support both Android and iOS as well as PC, offering a seamless experience across all platforms.

Beta Tests Are Already Underway

Tencent has already opened registrations for a “restart test”, where players can experience classic modes from the franchise, such as:

• Hunter Mode (Classic “Nizhan”) – Battle hordes of mutant creatures in intense combat.
• Tower Defense Mode – Protect your base using long-range weapons and strategic traps.
• Mecha Combat – Pilot giant robots to face enemies in epic battles.
• Time-Space Hunt – A mode with time distortion mechanics and even more challenging enemies.

When Will It Be Released?

There is still no official release date (or even a projected release for the West), but the hype around the game is growing rapidly, especially due to its stunning visuals and frenetic gameplay. Tencent is heavily investing in delivering a unique cooperative FPS experience, combining action, strategy, and sci-fi in one package.
